Registration on departure is a way for capable Victoria Police officers to keep the door open after resignation and becomes the first step to return to employment with Victoria Police.

People leave for various reasons such as to pursue other careers or take a break for personal or family reasons, often with a plan to return. This is common in many occupations.

You may apply up to 3 months before and up to 6 months after you leave the organisation. It involves PRSB undertaking an independent assessment of your qualification for registration based on  evidence of your good character and reputation as provided in your Certificate of Service . The PRSB will notify you in writing when your registration takes effect.

Current Victoria Police officers, who have served for five or more years, may be eligible to receive a Certificate of Service (apply to PAYROLL-SERVICES-MGR@police.vic.gov.au (External link)). For applicants who have not achieved five years of service, the PRSB will seek further information from Victoria Police.

If you do not apply for registration prior to leaving, the opportunity to register remains open, just complete the after departure application.
